What a great place.

 

 

Look what I saw on the way to get some lunch last week.

 

I really want one. Some modern car company should buy the design and start making then again.

 

 

Here are a few pictures (from the 'phone) of a quick walk up Skiddaw (3rd highest point in England) that we did over Christmas. That's not snow on the ground, but a couple of inches of frost. Windchill was severe.

 

Night before was very cold (-13 C). Loads of frost and ice on inside of tent and on sleeping bag. Nice.

Last weekend I went to Coniston. We camped there on the friday night. The full moon and mist looked amazing on the lake so we decided to get an early start the next morning. We paddled out into the mist at dawn and had an hour or so on a spooky, still, quiet, misty lake. Occasionally visibility was very poor and yachts would suddenly emerge from the gloom as we paddled towards them - great stuff. We had a cup of tea and breakfast at about 9 and the mist lifted revealing the spectacular mountain scenery. Paddling further down the lake we found the island that inspired Wild Cat Island in Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons. Attached are some pictures that show the 'secret harbour' there. After exploring the island we paddled to the river at the end of the lake ans attempted our first moving water. Went quite well for first attempt although we struggled a bit going upstream.

I bought a second-hand canoe at the weekend. Here are a few pictures from Lake Windermere (featuring John, who also bought one).
